![]() INSTRUCTION MANUAL Description: Except for the Model BD-20 Tip Spring and all corona treating electrodes, all other Electro-Technic electrodes have a plastic spacer in between the electrode tip and the base that fits into the socket of the Tester. This spacer separates the two metal parts. A spark must jump this gap before the voltage can be applied to the electrode tip. This spacer/air gap effectively isolates the electrode tip from line voltage in the unlikely event of a short in the Tester. This shorting block is used with the Model BD-40E and BD-60 when they are used at voltage settings of approximately 6,000 V and below for use in testing thinner coatings and liners. The output range of both units is 2,000 to 35,000 volts. Models BD-10A, BD-10AS, and BD-50E have minimum voltage ranges above the 6,000 V threshold, so this accessory is not required for these models. The range of the Models BD-10A and 10AS is 10,000 to 50,000; the Model BD-50E, 20,000 to 50,000. All of the Electro-Technic High Frequency Generators/Testers, with the exception of the Models BD-10A and BD-10AS, provide line voltage isolation via an isolation transformer or similar device. The electrode spacer is the sole line-voltage isolation device for the Models BD-10A and BD-10AS, and as such the shorting block must not be used under any circumstances with the Models BD-10A and BD-10AS. Use: Use the Shorting block with either the Model BD-40E or BD-60. Remove power from the instrument, and remove the electrode. Push the black plastic block over the white plastic spacer of the electrode. Make certain the spring clips of the block make contact with both metal parts of the electrode.
